Kent Police swooped after a collision between a tipper van and a car in Chatham Hill, Chatham, on January 13, 2022, at around 5.25pm. Things got ugly when the tipper van occupants aggressively confronted the car driver, demanding he transfer £1,000 via a banking app.
Two Men Arrested, One Recalled to Prison
The duo, aged 28 and 37 from Whitstable and Rochester, were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and cannabis possession. While released pending further enquiries, the 28-year-old was immediately recalled to prison for breaching licence terms on a separate case.
Luxury Loot Seized Under Proceeds of Crime Act
Officers uncovered the 28-year-old had an outstanding £76,481 confiscation order. A subsequent raid on his home revealed high-end goods believed to be bought through criminal proceeds. The haul included a Rolex Yacht Master watch, plus designer clothes, shoes, and handbags.
Police Secure Warrant to Hold Stolen Goods
On January 17, Kent and Essex financial crime teams obtained a warrant at maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone Magistrates’ Court to keep the items for a year. This gives them time to follow the money trail and crack down further on illicit profits.
