Man Jailed for Sexting Spree Targeting Dozens of Teenage Girls
Rampersad Caught in Sick Online Child Sex Crime
Valmiki Rampersad, 47, from Tudor Drive, Morden, has been locked up for six years at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, 23 January. The pervert was also slapped with a lifetime spot on the sex offenders’ register.
Using Fake Profiles to Target Vulnerable Teens
The vile offender pleaded guilty to 26 offences, including:
- 4 counts of causing or inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity
- 21 counts of sexual communication with a child
- 1 count of making indecent images of a child
Rampersad exploited the teen dating site Mylol.com, posing as a teenage boy through a staggering 78 fake profiles. Between October 2017 and September 2018, he targeted 21 girls aged 13 to 15, engaging them in explicit sexting, fantasy role-play, and live webcam chats.
Police Praise Victims’ Courage, Urge Others to Speak Out
Police swooped in December 2017, raiding Rampersad’s home and seizing devices. He was arrested two days later.
Detective Constable Tom Ward said: “Rampersad used social media to prey on vulnerable teenage girls, invading their homes for his own sick gratification. I praise the bravery of those girls who came forward.”
“We believe there are more victims out there. Anyone coerced in this way should contact police immediately. This case is a chilling reminder: the internet can be a dangerous place. It’s on all of us—not just the cops—to warn young people about online safety.”
