Gang Boss Roland Douherty Hit With New Injunction Over Thurrock Crime Spree
Thurrock’s C17 Gang Leader Targeted Again
Roland Douherty, the notorious leader of the C17 gang, has been slapped with a fresh interim gang injunction at Chelmsford County Court today, Friday 25 September. The move comes after years of violent incidents and anti-social behaviour linked to Douherty and his crew across Thurrock.
Cracking Down on Crime Hotspots
Douherty and ten other gang members were first hit with tough injunctions back in 2017, thanks to a joint effort between Essex Police’s West Operation Raptor unit, Thurrock Council, and local communities. The gang terrorised Grays town centre, town park, Lakeside Shopping Centre, and nearby areas by dealing drugs, inciting violence, and stirring chaos.
Authorities revealed how the gang exploited vulnerable youngsters, forcing them to run drugs and carry weapons, all while promoting violent gangs through ‘drill’ music videos full of hostile lyrics.
New Injunction Demands Tough Restrictions
The latest court order bans 20-year-old Douherty from:
- Associating with gang members publicly or online without police permission
- Entering hotspots like Grays Town Centre, Lakeside, rail stations, and local parks
- Creating violent or criminal-promoting videos
- Gathering in groups of two or more if intimidating others
- Carrying weapons, drugs, or more than £100 in cash
- Owning undisclosed phones or SIM cards without police access
- Running from officers on demand
Failure to follow these strict rules could see Douherty hit with fines, jail time, or asset seizures.
Police Continue Fight Against Gang Crime
“Douherty has, unfortunately, failed to learn the lessons of the last two years,” said PC Jonathan Kemp from the West Operation Raptor team. “We’ve cut the gang’s grip on Thurrock significantly, with some members turning their lives around or moving away. But Douherty remains a threat, so this injunction helps us keep fighting back.”
“We’re committed to doing whatever it takes to stop this gang and others from terrorising the streets of Essex.”
The full gang injunction hearing has been adjourned to a later date. Essex Police urge anyone with information about gang or drug crime to call 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
