Pensioner Miraculously Survives Brutal Dog Attack
Vic Franklin, 77, is counting his blessings after a savage dog attack in his hometown of Lewes on August 18 left him with life-altering injuries. The pensioner, who remains in hospital recovering from multiple surgeries, has praised the emergency services for saving his life.
Emergency Heroes Save the Day
Franklin credits police, paramedics, the air ambulance crew, and the dedicated staff at Royal Sussex County Hospital with turning a potential tragedy into a story of survival. “Simply put, I wouldn’t be here without the assistance of our emergency service workers,” he said.
Bravery and Loss: Family Speaks Out
After frantic calls from witnesses, specialist firearms officers arrived at Lewes Close and were forced to shoot the attacking dogs to prevent further harm. Both animals died at the scene.
Vic’s son Lee shared the family’s heartache: “We were devastated. Dad has always been our rock. After the amputation of his left leg, right arm, and left middle finger, we feared the worst.”
But Lee says his father’s strength shines through: “Dad’s an inspiration. Even after surgery, his first words were ‘Everyone is safe now.’ He’s still the same dad, keeping us all laughing. To us, he’s a hero.”
Man Arrested, Investigation Ongoing
The owners of the dogs have been identified. A 29-year-old man from Bognor Regis" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bognor Regis has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog. He is on conditional bail until November 16, pending further investigation.
