Neo-Nazi Podcasters Jailed for Terrorism
Two London men have been convicted of terrorism offences after using a podcast to incite violent attacks on ethnic minorities. The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command launched a full investigation that exposed their vile hate speech and calls for terror acts.
Hate-Fuelled Rants Broadcast Online
Christopher Gibbons, 40, from South London, and Tyrone Patten-Walsh, 35, from East London, hosted a shocking neo-Nazi podcast. They spewed homophobic, racist, anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, and misogynistic slurs.
On several occasions, they urged listeners to commit violent terrorist acts.
Gibbons also maintained an online library packed with hundreds of extreme right-wing texts, videos, and propaganda. The library had almost 1,000 subscribers and more than 152,000 views.
Met Police Crack Down on Extremism
Detectives seized 21 podcast episodes and hundreds of hours of extremist content. Specialist officers from the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit identified seven videos and one document that explicitly encouraged terrorism.
Both men were arrested in May 2021 and charged in August after close collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division.
Guilty on All Counts – Sentencing Next
At Kingston Crown Court, Gibbons and Patten-Walsh faced eight counts of encouraging terrorism. Gibbons also faced two charges of disseminating terrorist publications. They were found guilty on every count.
Commander Dominic Murphy said:
“Gibbons and Patten-Walsh wrongly believed broadcasting their hate-filled extremist views openly on a podcast gave them immunity. Our investigation and the jury proved otherwise. If you spot extremist content online, report it. Public information is vital in our fight against terrorism.”
Both men remain in custody ahead of sentencing at Kingston Crown Court on 26 September.
