Man in 60s Dies After Brutal Plumstead Assault – Murder Probe Launched
Early Hours Attack Leaves Victim Fighting for Life
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in his 60s who was critically injured during a serious assault in Plumstead.
The victim was found badly hurt outside a property on Malton Street during the early hours of Sunday, 16 February. Police weren’t alerted until days later when he was in critical condition in hospital on Wednesday, 19 February. Despite emergency treatment, he sadly passed away the next day, Thursday, 20 February.
44-Year-Old Arrested and Freed on Bail
Officers arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) following the assault. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
A post-mortem is due to establish the exact cause of death as the investigation intensifies.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“Officers are continuing to investigate a serious assault in Plumstead. On 19 February, we received a report that a man was in hospital in critical condition, linked to an assault outside an address on Malton Street on the morning of 16 February.” “A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and has been released on bail. Sadly, the victim passed away on 20 February. Our inquiry remains ongoing.”
The police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault or who has CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the area on 16 February to get in touch immediately.
