Drink spiking horror in Brighton as five held after woman falls ill on night out
Early hours chaos in city centre
Five men have been arrested in Brighton on suspicion of drink spiking after a 19-year-old woman suddenly fell ill on a night out in West Street. It happened in the early hours of Sunday, October 2.
Nightclub staff quickly stepped in to help the woman, who was then taken to hospital for treatment.
Swift police action leads to arrests
Police on patrol wasted no time. They teamed up with the venue to gather evidence and soon identified several suspects.
Three men from Hampshire, two aged 35 and one 27, alongside a 26-year-old from Worthing, were held on suspicion of administering poison with intent to harm. They were later released on conditional bail.
Following further inquiries, a fifth man, 37, also from Hampshire, was arrested and released under investigation.
Warning to clubbers: report spiking immediately
Detective Sergeant Sharon Rintoul said: “The speed at which we were able to make these arrests is a testament to the swift action of bar staff and our officers. It also highlights the crucial need to report spiking incidents straight away.”
“If you think you or someone you know has been spiked, alert bar staff, find a police officer, or dial 999 immediately. Quick reporting helps secure vital evidence.”
