Three Men Busted Over Dodgy Amazon Firestick Streaming
Police have cracked down on digital piracy with three arrests over modified Amazon Firesticks. These devices were allegedly used to illegally stream pay-TV channels like Sky Sports, costing broadcasters and sports organisations millions in lost revenue.
From Nottingham to Stockton: The Pirates Nabbed
The trio, aged 42 (Nottingham), 51 (Widnes), and 52 (Stockton on Tees), were caught in a nationwide swoop by local cops working alongside cybercrime experts from Fact-UK. During the bust, the Widnes suspect was also found with Class A drugs, adding fuel to the investigation. All three have been released on bail as inquiries continue.
Crackdown Builds After Major Streaming Kingpin Jailed
This latest seizure follows a spike in anti-piracy efforts. Last month, Michael Hornung, a top illegal streaming operator, was jailed for four-and-a-half years. The crook tried to dodge arrest by fleeing to Northern Cyprus but was dragged back to the UK to face justice.
Fact-UK data reveals a surge in devices like Firesticks being used for piracy. In fact, 40 IPTV operators received cease-and-desist orders just this month, signalling a heavy clampdown on streaming scams.
UK Follows Spain’s Lead on Piracy Crackdown
Legal moves in Spain, where judges extended liability to users of illegal streaming services, could spark similar action across the UK.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Warbey of the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit warned, “Illegal streaming steals from entertainment industries but also often funds serious crime. Our arrests today send a clear message: we won’t tolerate these offences.”
Police and Fact-UK are urging the public to avoid illegal streaming services—not just to dodge legal trouble but to help starve criminal gangs of their dirty cash.
