Terror Probe Underway After Westminster Crash Injures Three
Counter Terrorism officers have launched raids across the Midlands following a shocking crash outside the Houses of Parliament this morning. At 7:37am on Tuesday 14 August, a silver Ford Fiesta smashed into cyclists and pedestrians before crashing into barriers near Westminster, injuring three people.
Driver Arrested Over ‘Terror Act’
A 29-year-old UK man behind the wheel was arrested at the scene by armed police on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act under the Terrorism Act 2006. He remains in custody at a south London police station as officers dig into his motives and actions.
Two victims, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and have since been discharged. Another man received treatment at the scene.
Fiesta Traced From Birmingham to London
Police investigations reveal the private Ford Fiesta, registration FL10 CWZ, travelled from Birmingham to London late on Monday night. It lingered around Tottenham Court Road from 1:25am to 5:55am, then cruised Westminster and Whitehall until the crash.
Forensics have searched the car left at the scene but found no weapons. At the time of arrest, the driver was alone in the vehicle.
Public Urged to Help and Stay Alert
Detectives want anyone who spotted the car or driver near Tottenham Court Road early this morning, or in Westminster from 6am today, to call 0800 789 321. Witnesses with photos or videos of the incident are urged to submit them via ukpoliceimageappeal.co.uk.
Searches continue at two Birmingham addresses and one in Nottingham. Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command are backed by East Midlands Special Operations Unit and West Midlands Police Counter Terrorism Unit.
Specialist Project Servator officers—both in uniform and plain clothes—are deployed in Westminster to spot suspicious activity and will challenge anyone believed to pose a threat.
Remember: If you see anything suspicious, ring 999 immediately. The priority remains to keep London and the UK safe.
