Flat Shut Down After Anti-Social Behaviour Complaints
Magistrates slapped a three-month closure order on a flat in Heywood Gardens on Friday (22 March) after a flood of complaints about anti-social behaviour and disorder. The move bans anyone from entering the property unless police give the green light, making it a criminal offence to do otherwise.
Police Crack Down on Drug Use and Disorder
Hampshire Constabulary pushed for the closure, citing ongoing concerns over drug use and disruptive behaviour. PC Dan McGarrigle from the Force’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team said: “I hope this closure reassures the local community that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and drug-related activity in our communities and we will do everything within our power to stop it.”
Community Effort Key to Action
PC McGarrigle added: “It was clear that criminal activities at the address had a negative impact on the quality of life of other residents. The closure order would not have been possible without the help and co-operation of our partners at portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth City Council’s housing department and the local community, so I would like to thank them for their help and support.”
