Teen Charged in Brutal Friar Street Attack and Robbery Spree

Reading Youth Faces Serious Charges

A 16-year-old boy from Reading was charged on Wednesday (14 April) with grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery, and three counts of attempted robbery. The teenager, arrested on 5 January, has been bailed to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 5 May.

Second Man Charged Over Same Incident

Jan Watroba, 20, of Zinzan Street, Reading, was arrested on 15 January and charged on 14 April with three counts of attempted robbery. He is also bailed to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court, but on 9 June.

Violent Attack Outside CEX Shop

The charges relate to a chilling incident on Sunday, 13 December. A group of friends were walking along Friar Street when two attackers approached them outside the CEX store. One victim, a 17-year-old boy, was separated from the group and led to nearby Victoria Park.

There, he suffered a savage assault, leaving him with serious eye, facial, and arm injuries that required hospital treatment.

Friends Threatened and Robbed

The rest of the group were threatened, with demands to hand over their bags as the attackers tried to rob them.

Police investigations continue as the court dates loom.
