Elderly Woman Attacked in Brutal Bus Stop Robbery
Shocking footage shows 89-year-old woman targeted at a Wingfield bus stop at 1.30pm on 17 November. Kirsty Moxon lurks nearby before suddenly snatching the woman’s handbag.
Grab, Hit, and Steal – Victim Left Seriously Injured
Moxon didn’t stop at theft. She struck the victim on the back of the head, ripped away her handbag and walking frame. The woman fell, hitting her head and breaking her arm.
Quick Arrest and Community Rally
Police sprang into action and arrested Moxon within hours. The following day, she was charged with robbery. PC Jack Mitchell said:
“This was a particularly shocking incident which saw a vulnerable woman targeted and attacked. Although we were very quickly able to apprehend Moxon, the attack left the woman requiring a prolonged period of recovery, taking away her independence.”
Moxon stole £300 cash, plus the victim’s car keys and bank cards. Local residents responded brilliantly, setting up a fundraiser to replace what was lost. PC Mitchell added:
“I want to wholeheartedly thank everyone involved in this, for their positive response and support they have provided to both us and the victim. I am glad we were able to put Moxon before the courts and secure a custodial sentence.”
Justice Served – Moxon Jailed
Moxon, from Whitegate Walk, pleaded guilty to robbery. On 14 January, she was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court.
PC Mitchell concluded:
“Our job is to protect the most vulnerable people in our society, and I do hope the local community is reassured by the fast and positive action taken by us in this case.”
