Police were scrambled to a series of massive fires across Sussex last year — and now three men face serious arson charges. The total damage? A staggering £1.1 million.

Fire Frenzy Hits Horsham to Seaford

  • June 26, 2021, 10.27pm: West Sussex Fire & Rescue battled a huge blaze at a derelict building on Broadwater Lane, Horsham.
  • July 8, 2021, 3.39am: East Sussex Fire Service tackled a massive fire in Wivelsfield Green, with eight fire engines on scene.
  • August 29, 2021, 7.23am: Police were called to a deliberate fire destroying two outbuildings in Lower Willingdon storing cylinders and farm machinery.
  • November 2, 2021, 2.54am: A barn on farmland near Beddingham went up in flames. Police assisted East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.
  • November 4, 2021, 4.32am: A fire at Rathfinny vineyard’s hay bales saw road closures and fire service support.
  • November 6, 2021, 10.49pm: Two large barns ablaze in Tarring Neville sent smoke billowing onto the A26.
  • November 7, 2021, 4.04am: A silver Vauxhall Corsa caught fire on Lewes Road, Ringmer.
  • November 7, 2021, 5.28am: Another hay bale inferno broke out on Litlington Road, Seaford, triggering road closures.

Arson Confirmed – Three Men Arrested

Police investigations confirmed all incidents were arson attacks. The huge fire spree caused over £1.1 million in damages.

Oliver Williams, 19, of Porters Way, Polegate, has been charged with one count of arson.

Joshua Brinkley, 19, Southfield, Polegate, faces seven counts of arson.

Connor Luck, 21, of Balls Green, Withyham, is charged with two counts of arson.

All three have been summonsed to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 27 April.
