Preston Stabbing Murder: Four Charged, Investigation Continues

Two new suspects have been hit with charges in the murder of Lee Dawson, 42, who died from stab wounds last weekend in Preston.

New Charges in Fatal Stabbing

Stuart Brown, 36, and Kerry-Ann Metcalfe, 38—both from Dawson Walk, Preston—have been charged with murder and assisting an offender, respectively. They are due in Preston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

A 23-year-old man arrested Tuesday on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed pending further inquiries. Meanwhile, a second man, 33, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Timeline of the Attack

  • Early hours of Friday, June 17: Ambulance service called at 3 a.m. after Lee Dawson found with stab wounds on Jutland Street.
  • Dawson, originally from Preston but living in Sunderland, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but later died.
  • Home Office post-mortem confirmed cause of death as stab wounds.

Earlier Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Earlier this week, two men, Andrew Wilcock, 29, and Benjamin Bibby, 20, both from Preston, were charged with murder and possessing a bladed article. They appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court Tuesday and are slated for Preston Crown Court on Thursday.

Five other men, aged 18 to 31, arrested over the weekend on suspicion of murder, have been released on bail.

“While we have charged a total of four people in connection with Mr Dawson’s death, our investigation is ongoing, and I would continue to appeal to anyone with information,” said Det Chief Insp Mark Haworth-Oates of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team.
