Bonfire Night Chaos: Police Ramp Up Arrests After Edinburgh and Glasgow Riots

Police are cracking down hard after a wave of violent disorder rocked Edinburgh and Glasgow on Bonfire Night. Since the chaos on November 5, authorities have swooped with seven more arrests, taking the total to nine. Meanwhile, 14 suspects are still being tracked as investigations heat up.

Edinburgh: Fireworks and Weapons Charges Fly

  • A 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman in Edinburgh’s Niddrie area were arrested and charged with fireworks offences. Both have been released but must face court soon.
  • An 18-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy were arrested for culpable and reckless conduct and possession of a weapon. The 18-year-old will appear in court; the 13-year-old has been reported to authorities.
  • Police are also hunting 14 more individuals linked to the unrest in Edinburgh.

Glasgow: Assaults and Weapon Charges

  • A 17-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and weapon possession.
  • Two other teenagers, aged 16 and 17, face assault charges. Their cases will go to the Procurator Fiscal.

More arrests are expected as inquiries continue. Officers urge the public to help by sharing footage or tips via Major Incident Public Portals (MIPP):

Chief Constable Praises Officers, Warns Against Violence

“The bravery, discipline, and professionalism shown by our officers during this violence has been outstanding,” said Assistant Chief Constable Tim Mairs, Operation Moonbeam’s Gold Commander. “While some suffered physical injuries, we are also mindful of the mental toll this takes. Support is in place for all affected officers – they have families too.”

“No emergency worker deserves to be hurt while on duty. If you know anything about these incidents, please come forward.”
