£8.5 Million Cocaine Haul Seized from Polish Lorry Driver at Harwich Port
Polish Driver Caught Red-Handed
A Polish lorry driver has been arrested and charged with drug smuggling after an £8.5 million stash of cocaine was uncovered at Harwich Port. Lucas Wesolowski, 28, was nabbed when the class A drugs were discovered in his HGV trailer arriving from the Hook of Holland ferry on May 12.
Cocaine Stashed Among Household Goods
Border officers spotted tightly taped packages of cocaine hidden inside sacks placed on top of washing machines and tumble dryers. This led the National Crime Agency (NCA) to launch a full-scale investigation.
Driver Faces Court, Organised Crime Targeted
Wesolowski was charged with attempting to import class A drugs and remanded in custody following a hearing at Colchester Magistrates Court on May 13. He is due back at Ipswich Crown Court on June 10.
“This was a large amount of cocaine, worth around £8.5 million if cut and sold on the streets of the UK,” said Lydia Bloomfield, NCA branch commander.
“Losing it will be a big blow for the criminal network likely to be behind this attempted importation – profits which they will not be able to invest in other criminality.
“Working with law enforcement partners like Border Force, we are determined to disrupt the organised crime groups involved in drug supply and protect the public.”
