Swale Criminal Jailed for Car Thefts and Dangerous Driving Spree
Darren Regan, 32, from Sittingbourne, has been locked up for nearly two years after a string of thefts and driving offences across Swale. The prolific offender pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on 14 October following multiple arrests over several months.
From Vehicle Break-Ins to Selling Stolen Cars Online
Regan’s crime spree kicked off on 29 January 2024 when he broke into two vehicles near Sheerness, stealing binoculars hidden in his coat when stopped by police. He was slapped with charges of theft and vehicle interference.
In May, Regan got brazen. On 14 May, he covered car plates with black tape and stole £76.21 worth of fuel from a Minster-on-Sea petrol station without paying. Just days later, he nicked a VW Jetta from a Sittingbourne delivery driver, selling it online for £575.
Dangerous Driving and Intimidation
Regan was caught on 11 June in a VW Polo with the ignition on, facing charges including driving without a licence and no insurance. After spitting on a police camera, he was charged with criminal damage.
On 27 June, he escalated matters by dangerously tailgating and ramming another car in Sheerness. His vehicle, sporting false plates, was found on 2 July. The next day, police arrested him and charged him with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop after a crash, and fraudulent use of a registration mark.
Judge Sends Regan Down for Almost Two Years
At Maidstone Crown Court, Regan admitted all charges. He was sentenced to 23 months in prison and banned from driving for two years and 11 months after his release.
“Regan is a prolific criminal who has shown a complete disregard for the law and other road users,” said Detective Sergeant Barry Carr. “Swale will be safer with him behind bars. Officers will keep a close eye when he’s released to make sure he keeps off the roads until his ban ends and proper insurance is in place.”
Authorities urge locals to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to keep the community safe.
