Night Out Horror: Man Jailed for Raping Woman After Club

A 21-year-old man has been jailed for seven years for raping a vulnerable woman he met outside a Southampton nightclub. Abdi Mohammed was found guilty by a jury at Southampton Crown Court after a three-week trial last month.

Chilling Attack After Night Out

On August 19, 2016, the 18-year-old victim was out with friends at Oceana nightclub in Southampton. Separated from her group, she was approached by Mohammed. Taking advantage of her isolation, he forced her into a car and drove her to a house on Derby Road, where he brutally raped her.

The woman fled the address on foot and alerted security staff at Royal South Hants Hospital. Cops launched an investigation, arresting Mohammed a week later. Key evidence came from CCTV footage and forensic analysis, securing his conviction.

Detective’s Warning and Praise for Victim

Detective Inspector Toby Elcock said: “This was a complex and protracted case of the rape of a young woman on a night out in Southampton. I firstly want to commend the bravery of the young woman and thank her for the dedication she has given to the case that has allowed us to bring this offender to justice today.”

“Mohammed preyed upon this young woman who found herself outside a nightclub, separated from friends, alone and vulnerable. He coerced her to go with him, convincing her he had her best interests at heart but instead took her to a place where he raped her.”

“Hampshire Constabulary is committed to justice for victims and keeping Southampton safe. Remember to look out for each other, avoid walking alone, and always plan how to get home safely with friends.”

The sentence is hoped to bring some closure to the victim and reassurance to the wider Hampshire community that justice has been served.
