Exposed After Year-Long Grooming
A man from Rotherham has been sentenced for having sex with a teenage girl in the back of his car. Initially denying the charges, Ward dramatically changed his plea on day two of his trial, admitting to sexual activity with a child.
Victim Groomed and Exploited
On 7 April 2023, Ward lured his vulnerable victim from her home late at night into the back of his Jaguar. After grooming her for over a year, he took advantage, leaving the terrified girl to make her own way home.
DNA Evidence Sealed His Fate
Too scared to speak out initially, the victim confided in a family member, triggering a police probe. DNA recovered from her clothes matched Ward, leading to his conviction for sexual activity with a child under 16.
Prison and Punishment
On Tuesday 6 February, Ward was sentenced to 10 months in prison. He was also ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge and placed on the sex offenders register for life. Anonymity has been granted to the victim.
