Second Teen Charged Over Fatal Dagenham Fire

Detectives have charged a second youth in connection with the deadly blaze that claimed the life of 76-year-old Robert Price in Dagenham.

Tragic Fire Claims Elderly Man’s Life

Robert Price died after a tragic fire ripped through a home on Oval Road North, Dagenham, on Saturday, 27 July. A post-mortem on 29 July confirmed the cause of death as inhalation of fire fumes and burns. His devastated family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers. They have asked for privacy during this heartbreaking time.

Two Teens Now Charged with Murder and Arson

  • A 17-year-old boy was first charged on 30 July with murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He appeared at the Old Bailey on 2 August and was remanded until a pre-trial hearing on 18 October.
  • On 4 August, a 16-year-old boy was charged with the same offences. He is due to appear at Barkingside Youth Court on 5 August.

Police Confirm No More Suspects Sought

“I would like to reassure the community that while the investigation remains ongoing, police are not seeking to identify any further people in connection with the fatal fire on Oval Road North. I also ask that the privacy of Mr Price’s family is respected,” said Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Authorities urge anyone who was near Oval Road North between 5pm and 6pm on 27 July, or who has dashcam footage, to come forward. Your information could be vital.
