Two Men Nabbed for Digger ATM Heists Across Kent

Anthony Pemberthy, 43, from Calder Road, Maidstone, and Stephen Davenport, 60, of Ashford Road, Maidstone, have been charged over a string of six daring ATM thefts. The crimes, which occurred between November 2019 and March 2021, saw huge cash hauls and serious damage caused with heavy diggers.

Digger Raids Targeted Shops Across Kent

The pair allegedly used diggers to smash and grab cash machines at multiple locations, leaving chaos in their wake. The offences include attacks at:

  • The Co-op in High Street, Cranbrook (14 November 2019);
  • Esso petrol station, Cranbrook Road, Staplehurst (25 January 2020);
  • Tesco Extra, Honeywood Parkway, Whitfield (23 March 2020);
  • Morrisons, Coldharbour Road, Northfleet (31 January 2021);
  • Tesco Express, High Street, Dymchurch (28 February 2021);
  • Shell Lychgate garage on A299 Thanet Way near Dargate (1 March 2021).

Arrests and Court Date Set

Both men were arrested on Monday 9 May 2022 and have been charged in connection with these brazen thefts. They are set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 11 May 2022.

Police say the suspects caused significant damage using diggers to rip out ATMs, making off with large sums of cash each time.
