Serving Soldier Arrested After Horror Crash Kills Two Teenage Runners in Aldershot
A serving soldier has been arrested following a tragic crash that claimed the lives of two teenage girls in Aldershot. The pair were hit by a car while out running on Queen’s Avenue, Hampshire, shortly after 7.10pm on Tuesday, 8th November.
Teen Runners Killed in Hit-and-Run
The two girls, believed to be members of the Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletic Club (AFD), were struck by a black Ford Focus. Police confirmed the driver, a 24-year-old soldier, remains in custody. Fortunately, no one else was hurt in the collision.
MoD Responds to Fatal Incident
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a fatal road traffic collision occurred in Aldershot Garrison and that a soldier is currently being held by Hampshire Police. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
Specialist officers are supporting the devastated families as Queen’s Avenue remained closed for several hours while investigations took place.
Heartbreaking Tributes Pour In
Dozens have taken to social media to mourn the young victims. Julia Blomquist posted:
“I woke up to the horrific news this morning and it’s heartbreaking. These girls were doing what they loved — running — just like I did once. My heart goes out to their families and everyone at the club. RIP beautiful angels.”
Allan Leiper, joint team manager at AFD, added:
“This tragedy outside our training facilities is devastating. My thoughts are with the girls and their families. They were pursuing their dreams at the best running club in the world. Rest in peace.”
