Swindon Police Ramp Up Knife Crime Crackdown
Armed cops are boosting patrols across Swindon to tackle a spike in knife and weapons violence. Over the past week, officers hit the streets hard, targeting trouble hotspots with high-visibility patrols, bail checks and closure order enforcement.
Heavy Police Presence on the Beat
Since launching the crackdown, police have carried out 130 patrols on foot and in vehicles. They’ve also done 55 closure order checks, 43 bail checks, and conducted 22 stop-and-searches. The hard-hitting operation led to six arrests for weapons, drugs, and violent offences.
Police Speak Out: “Knife Crime Is Unacceptable”
Superintendent Phil Staynings said: “Our first week has been positive as we tackle the rise in knife crime in Swindon. Seizing dangerous weapons and enforcing bail and closure orders shows we’re serious about keeping public spaces safe.”
“We understand how knife crime impacts communities. This initiative is part of our wider push to stamp out carrying knives.”
“Tragically, many involved are just teenagers. We’re working behind the scenes with partners and young people to address the root causes.”
“We’re also educating school pupils on the dangers of knives and bringing together agencies through our public health action plan.”
“Our job isn’t done alone. We urge the public to come forward with information on weapons crime via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
“Every tip helps us build the picture and keep Swindon safer.”
