Sex Offender Jailed for Hiding at Home with Child

A 23-year-old sex offender from Peterborough has copped five months behind bars for flagrantly breaching a court order. Liam Copeman broke the rules by moving in with a family in Downham Market, Norfolk – without telling the police. The property had a young child living there, making the offence even more serious.

Video Doorbell Snags Criminal on Camera

Footage from a video doorbell caught Copeman arriving at the house at 9:29pm on 26 March. He didn’t leave until nearly noon the next day. This breach violated a sexual harm prevention order slapped on him back in February 2021 at Cambridge Crown Court.

Copeman admitted breaking the sexual harm prevention order and failing to notify authorities about his new address, as required by the Sex Offenders Register.

Police Warn: Court Orders Are Not a Joke

Sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on 11 October, Copeman’s case sent a clear message. PC Lorraine Smart stressed the vital role court orders play in protecting the public. “We prosecute breaches hard. Protecting children remains our top priority,” she declared.

Community Urged to Use Sarah’s Law

Authorities are now urging the public to stay vigilant. If you suspect someone convicted of a sex offence poses a risk, use Sarah’s Law. This lets people apply for disclosure on sex offenders in their area.

“Together, we can keep our communities safe and protect the vulnerable,” said PC Smart.
