Knife-Wielding Sex Offender Spybey Jailed After Victim’s Brave Stand
Spybey, a nomad previously living in Havant, has been found guilty of sexual assault after a terrifying attack last October. The predator targeted a woman as she climbed into her parked car, groping her over clothes and trying to force a kiss – all rejected by the brave victim.
Victim Escapes Knife Threat and Goes to Police
When Spybey pulled a knife and grew hostile, the woman managed to break free and rush home. She reported the ordeal online in the early hours the next day, giving the police crucial details that led to Spybey’s quick arrest.
The pair did not know each other. Spybey denied assault at trial but was convicted by jurors. He had already admitted carrying a bladed weapon at the time of arrest.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage and Call for Reports
“This was undoubtedly a traumatic ordeal for the woman. I cannot praise her enough for the courage and bravery she has shown in coming forward and throughout the trial,” said DC Dana Mabe, head of the investigation.
“Her report helped us secure a guilty verdict and bring Spybey to justice. We want all survivors to know Hampshire Constabulary is committed to supporting victims and hunting down offenders.”
Spybey’s Disturbing Criminal Past
- Previously jailed for 34 weeks in April for threatening damage, assaulting a police officer with racist abuse.
- Admitted handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis.
- Had breached a suspended sentence for assaulting emergency workers.
The trial was moved from Portsmouth to Southampton Crown Court due to capacity issues.
Support and Advice for Victims
Police urge anyone who has suffered sexual offences to report incidents ASAP. A spokeswoman said: “Even if you’re unsure, we want to hear from you to keep you safe. If not ready to speak to police, confidential support and advice is available.”
