Man Jailed for Brutal Stabbing in Sheffield
Marcus Hamlin, 31, has been slammed with a hefty 14-and-a-half-year prison sentence for a horrific stabbing spree in Sheffield’s Manor area last summer.
Terrifying Attack on Mother and Child
On the evening of August 30, 2022, emergency services were called after a woman in her 30s was found seriously stabbed on Harborough Way. Police soon learned a child was also involved. Officers rushed to a nearby property and discovered the youngster with a severe head wound.
Suspect Caught Red-Handed
Hamlin, who had a wrist injury, was found close by and arrested on the spot. While he received first aid, officers and paramedics scrambled to save the child. All three victims were rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
Shocking Details of the Attack
Hamlin, who once lived on Dawlands Close, pleaded guilty to two counts of Section 18 Wounding. He was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on July 18.
“The victims sustained over 30 injuries, primarily inflicted with a kitchen knife and a meat cleaver,” said Detective Constable Hannah Bryan, who led the investigation.
“The lives of all those affected were irrevocably changed in the course of one evening. Although both victims have physically recovered from their significant injuries, the psychological impact of that night’s events will continue to affect them. Nevertheless, I hope that today’s sentencing brings them some measure of closure.”
