Six Jailed for Vicious Transphobic Attack on Harrow Teen

Six people have been locked up for a brutal, planned assault on a transgender teenager in Harrow. The victim, just 18, was stabbed nine times in a horrific attack that has left her physically and emotionally scarred.

Shocking Attack on Masons Avenue

On the evening of Saturday, 10 February 2024, police rushed to Masons Avenue, Harrow, after reports of a teenager being robbed and seriously stabbed. The 18-year-old victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but thankfully survived. She’s now out of hospital but continues to recover with ongoing support.

Investigations revealed the attack was a chilling, transphobic hate crime. The victim was lured to the spot under false pretences for a roller skating event. Instead, a gang waiting for her ambushed her, having coordinated the attack via a Snapchat group chat. They wore face coverings and came armed, planning the savage assault in advance.

Hard-Hitting Sentences at the Old Bailey

On Thursday, 16 January 2025, the Old Bailey handed down tough sentences:

  • Summer Betts-Ramsey, 20, no fixed address, got 8 years and 6 months. She will serve 4 years and 6 months inside for causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Bradley Harris, 18, of Carmelite Road, Harrow, and Cameron Beals, 18, of Kinlock Road, Tadworth, each received 3 years for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
  • A 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty to robbery and cannabis possession; sentencing is pending.
  • A 16-year-old boy got an 18-month supervision order for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Victim’s Haunting Account of Trauma

The victim read a powerful impact statement in court:

“At times when I close my eyes, I replay the assault in my head and visualise the knife being used on me. I am unable to control this, and I feel at times that this is taking over my life. I am not living a normal life, and I am not sure if my life will ever be the same again.”

She also spoke about the devastating hate she faced as a transgender woman, something she never imagined from others.

Police Praise and Ongoing Support

Detective Inspector Nicola Hannant, who led the investigation, said:

“This was a horrendous and violent assault on a young woman, motivated by the fact she is transgender. Summer Betts-Ramsey and Bradley Harris orchestrated the attack, with Betts-Ramsey repeatedly stabbing the victim. This premeditated attack could have easily resulted in the death of the victim.”

DI Hannant saluted the victim’s bravery and stressed the importance of bringing perpetrators of hate crimes to justice.
