Mother Granted Bail After Twin Sons Die in Tragic Fire
Deveca Rose, 29, has been granted conditional bail following a court hearing where she faced four manslaughter charges over the deaths of her two sets of twin sons in a devastating December 2021 fire. She also faces a charge of child abandonment under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933.
Grim Court Appearance at Bromley Magistrates’ Court
Dressed in black, Rose appeared before Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday. She remained silent on her pleas. The four children—Leyton and Logan Hoath, aged three, and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, aged four—perished in a blaze at their home on Collingwood Road, Sutton, around 7 pm on December 16, 2021.
Serious Charges with Harsh Penalties Warned by Judge
District Judge Sarah Turnock set specific bail conditions and warned Rose of the gravity of her case. “You are charged with very serious offences, and if found guilty, it is likely you would go to prison for a significant period,” the judge stated.
Rose will next appear at the Old Bailey for a plea and trial preparation hearing on January 8 next year. Family members accompanied her to court, with the judge requesting her attention twice during proceedings.
Firefighters’ Brave Rescue Ends in Tragedy
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus battled the intense blaze inside the mid-terrace house, rescuing the boys and performing CPR before rushing them to two south London hospitals. Sadly, all four children were pronounced dead.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson highlighted the profound impact on the community and confirmed the investigation remains active, supported by the Crown Prosecution Service and London Fire Brigade. They urged the public to avoid sharing material that could jeopardise court proceedings.
Family Mourns Loss of ‘Bright, Caring’ Boys
Dalton Hoath, father to the twins, expressed deep sorrow in a statement to MailOnline, describing the boys as “bright, caring, and lovable.” He thanked emergency services and the local community for their support.
Their grandfather, Jason Hoath, posted a heart-wrenching message on Facebook in 2021: “Boys I love you forever. Grandad xxx.”
