Southern Water Sorry After Burst Main Floods Newport

Southern Water has apologised after a burst water main caused chaos on Manner View Road industrial estate in Newport.

“We’d like to apologise to all customers affected by yesterday’s burst,” said Southern Water. Repairs to the 450mm main were completed around midnight.

Flooded Businesses and Thousands Left Without Water

The burst pipe forced the company to cut out and replace a 1.7-metre section of damaged main. This left seven commercial properties flooded and about 300 homes without water for two hours between 8pm and 10pm.

Water supplies were rerouted during repairs to keep the area safe.

Emergency Crews Join Forces to Limit Damage

Clean-up crews and support teams remained on site today to assist those impacted. Southern Water thanked Island Roads, the Environment Agency, and especially the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service for pumping water out and preventing further flooding.

“The Fire Service helped protect many buildings from flooding,” Southern Water said.
