Stalker Dad Spooked Ex and New Beau with GPS Trackers
Steven Brown, 51, from Kingswood, Surrey, has been handed a suspended jail sentence for stalking his estranged wife and her new partner. The hi-tech horror unfolded over three months starting November 2015, when Brown obsessively tracked their every move.
Stalker’s Creepy GPS Scheme Uncovered
Brown secretly slammed two GPS trackers on his ex’s car and one on her new man’s vehicle. Not stopping there, he hired private investigators to snap photos and tail the couple. The sneaky spying was exposed at Basingstoke Magistrates Court last month, where Brown admitted guilt.
16 Weeks Jail Suspended – But Stalker Faces Tough Terms
Judge sentenced Brown to 16 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years. He must also endure a four-year restraining order and 200 hours of unpaid work. On top, Brown will take a 15-day “Building Better Relationships” course and pay nearly £740 in court and victim fees.
Police Praise Victims’ Courage and Cutting-Edge Stalking Clinic
“The victims lived in fear and paranoia, endlessly stalked by texts, calls, and covert GPS devices,” said Police Staff Investigator Samantha Nol. “Our team fought tirelessly to secure justice.”
The investigation was tricky, relying on expert analysis of electronic devices and data. “Brown faced incontrovertible evidence, leaving him no choice but to confess,” Nol added.
Hampshire Constabulary leads the nation with its pioneering multi-agency stalking clinic. This panel of police, probation, CPS, mental health pros, and victim advocates reviews up to four high-risk stalking cases monthly. They plot the best way to nail offenders and protect victims.
The clinic’s innovative work recently won praise from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust and was showcased in a national conference last month, spreading the blueprint for tackling stalking far and wide.
“This case highlights just how seriously we take stalking and how much support victims can expect,” continued Nol. “We thank the victims for their bravery in coming forward.”
