Teen Suspect to Face Court Over Shocking Pensioner Robbery
A 17-year-old is set to appear in court after a pensioner was violently robbed in Darenth. The January 19 attack has left the local community reeling.
Attack on Elderly Woman During Morning Walk
The victim, a woman in her 70s, was walking along a footpath near Gore Road just after 11am last Friday. As she passed a man coming the opposite way, she was struck from behind, knocked to the ground, and had her handbag snatched.
Despite the terrifying assault, she managed to reach a hospital for treatment and reported the crime to police promptly.
Fraud Attempts Follow Robbery
Acting fast, the victim blocked her bank cards to prevent misuse. However, six separate attempts were made to use her cards in shops across Gravesend later that same day.
Arrest and Charges: Teen Held by Kent Police
Kent Police’s Proactive Targeting Team swooped on January 23, arresting the 17-year-old from Dartford in Gravesend. Officers also found and seized cannabis.
The youth now faces serious charges from the Kent Crime Squad, including robbery, six counts of fraud, and possession of a class B drug.
Due to the gravity of the offences, the suspect remains in custody and will appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on January 24, 2024.
