£25k Boots Theft Spree Cracked by Multi-Force Police Team

A crook accused of nicking £25,000 worth of goods from Boots stores across England and Wales has finally been charged after a massive police crackdown involving multiple forces and retail crime units.

Boots Burglar Brendan Brain Busted

Brendan Brain, 38, formerly of Milton Road, Southampton, is accused of a string of thefts and burglaries between 2024 and April 2025. His targets? Boots health and beauty stores in 10 different areas.

Boots say 40 shoplifting cases link back to Brain, including 11 in Sussex, with most in West Sussex alone.

Multi-Force Sting Leads to Arrest

Brain was arrested on 5 June by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary after a team effort involving Boots’ security, Sussex Police’s Business Crime Team, and other UK law enforcement.

Now charged with 12 counts of shoplifting and two counts of burglary, Brain remains in custody pending his court hearing at Staines Magistrates’ Court on 29 September 2025.

PC Chris Bishop, who led Sussex Police’s role, said: “This case shows how our targeted, partnership-led approach tackles retail crime by focusing on priority offenders. We work closely with Boots and other businesses to cut their losses and bring serious offenders to justice.”
