Eastbourne Man Jailed Over Revolver, Cocaine, and Cannabis Smuggling Plot
An Eastbourne man has been locked up for five-and-a-half years after police uncovered a loaded revolver, bullets, and cocaine linked to an attempted cannabis import through Dover.
Drug Interception Leads to Shocking Haul
Daniel Rees, 51, of Hodcombe Close, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 30 January. He pleaded guilty to several serious charges, including smuggling Class B cannabis into the UK, possessing a prohibited firearm, ammo, and Class A drugs (cocaine).
The fallout began when officers seized 950 grams of herbal cannabis at Dover. This led to searches on 12 December 2023 of Rees’s car and Eastbourne home in Anguilla Close. Police found cocaine in his vehicle and a revolver hidden in a sock at his house.
Police Crack Down on Crime and Drugs
“This is an example of our ongoing work with partners to take weapons off our streets and take robust action against drugs and the anti-social impact they have on our communities,” said Chief Inspector Simon Yates.
“We work tirelessly with the Violence Reduction Partnership and Border Force, not only to keep drugs and weapons off the street but also to re-educate offenders and steer them away from crime that harms the community.”
“This sentence sends a clear message to others: this will not be tolerated.”
