Teen Hero Helps Nab Swindon Sex Offender

A 14-year-old girl’s bravery has led to a 42-year-old man being locked up for sexually assaulting her in Swindon. Kevin Wolton, from Redhouse, was sentenced to 29 months behind bars at Swindon Crown Court after admitting the charges and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Disturbing Attack in Brook Park

On September 3, 2024, Wolton approached the teenager in Brook Park, Redhouse. He made obscene comments before grabbing and attempting to kiss her. The quick-thinking girl immediately reported the incident to nearby police officers, leading to Wolton’s arrest on suspicion of sexual assault.

Wolton was already under a SHPO that barred him from unsupervised contact with females under 18 or lone women. The court found he breached the order not once, but twice.

Police Praise Young Victim’s Courage

PC Dominic Tonge of Swindon North, East and Rural Team said, “The victim showed great courage throughout this case and was determined that Wolton should be punished to protect others. Her calm resolution to continue to seek justice despite her young age was impressive.”

Jail Time and Tougher Restrictions on Release

Wolton initially denied the charges but later pleaded guilty. Alongside his 29-month prison sentence, the court recognised the SHPO breaches designed to protect the public from further sexual harm.

Wiltshire Police have since demanded stricter conditions on Wolton’s release, including:

  • A ban on being within 100 metres of any children’s play park
  • A restriction preventing him from nearing any school or college by 100 metres
  • A prohibition from entering Redhouse Village Centre

PC Tonge added, “We will continue to manage these orders robustly and ensure those who break them are brought before the courts.”

Police Urge Community to Speak Out

This case highlights the vital role victims and communities play in securing justice. Wiltshire Police urge anyone experiencing or witnessing inappropriate behaviour to report it immediately and help keep the area safe.
