Teen Found Guilty of Murdering Student Outside Clapham Tube
A 17-year-old boy has been convicted of murdering Malcolm Mide-Madariola, a fellow student stabbed to death outside Clapham South Tube station last November. The fatal attack followed a confrontation between Malcolm and two males who wanted to pick a fight after college.
Conviction and Sentencing Loom
The youth was found guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon at the Old Bailey. He will be sentenced on 5 July. Meanwhile, Treynae Campbell, 19, was cleared of murder and manslaughter but admitted to carrying an offensive weapon.
Chilling Details of the Stabbing
Police were called to Balham Hill at 4.35pm on 2 November 2018 after reports of a stabbing near Clapham South Underground. Malcolm was found with multiple stab wounds and was rushed to a south London hospital, but he sadly died shortly after arrival.
A post-mortem confirmed he suffered fatal injuries from a hunting knife, including a stab to the heart. Detectives quickly launched a murder probe, reviewing CCTV and forensic evidence, leading to three arrests. One 19-year-old man was released without charge.
Knife Crime Warning from Police
“Malcolm was a student at a college in Clapham and had his whole future ahead of him,” said Detective Chief Inspector John Massey. “The culprit came prepared to cause trouble and didn’t hesitate to inflict fatal injuries after a minor dispute.
“The use of a specialist hunting knife, bought in advance, makes this attack all the more sickening. Nothing will bring Malcolm back, but we hope today’s verdict helps the family begin to heal from this deeply traumatic event.”
