Samurai Sword Shocker on Quiet Portslade Street
A terrifying samurai sword attack rocked Franklin Road, Portslade, on July 10. The culprit, 18-year-old Rhys Wyman, slashed a 15-year-old boy in broad daylight, seriously injuring the teenager. Miraculously, the victim has made a full recovery.
Fast Police Action Nets Two Suspects
- Wyman, from eastbourne/" title="Eastbourne" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Eastbourne, charged with possession of a bladed weapon, offensive weapon, and grievous bodily harm with intent.
- A 17-year-old co-accused from Brighton also charged but remains unnamed due to legal restrictions.
Wyman was remanded in custody. The younger suspect was initially bailed but soon re-arrested for breaching bail conditions and remains behind bars.
‘Violent and Brazen’ Attack Sees Wyman Jailed
On August 26, Wyman was found guilty of carrying an offensive weapon and attempted grievous bodily harm. The court slammed the attack as “violent and brazen,” warning against the dangers of carrying swords in public.
He was sentenced to 20 months in prison on September 29. Detective Constable Harry Judge said:
“Wyman has now been jailed for this violent and brazen assault, committed without a thought for the consequences. The victim has thankfully made a physical recovery, and the injuries from the sword, though serious, could have easily been far more significant.”
Portslade Locals on Edge After Sword Attack
The shock sword attack has left the Portslade community rattled. Fears of rising youth violence and weapon-carrying are spreading. Local leaders urge young people to ditch knives and weapons before tragedy strikes.
Sussex Police have intensified patrols and launched intervention programmes to tackle street violence head-on.
The 17-year-old co-defendant is due back in court on October 14.
