Police and Club Clamp Down on Football Violence
Inspector Tony Grimes said: “I hope this sends a clear message and acts as a deterrent to others that we will put you before the courts if you commit such violent crimes at our stadiums. This type of behaviour could have left a teenage boy with serious injuries and has no place in football.”
Inspector Grimes confirmed that the police are working closely with football clubs to root out troublemakers and keep fans safe.
Southport FC also weighed in with a firm stance against violence. A club spokesperson said: “We are grateful for the police’s swift action and co-operation. There is zero tolerance for behaviour like this at our matches. We will continue to work alongside authorities and stewards to ensure a safe environment for supporters of all ages.”
