Brighton Teen Threatened Women with Violence, Gets Suspended Jail Term
Brighton teenager Zaine Reid, 18, has been handed a 24-week prison sentence suspended for 24 months after making chilling threats against two women his age.
Violent Threats and Assault on Cops
Between 6 and 27 December last year, Reid sent terrifying texts to two 18-year-old women. His messages threatened to kill them, pay others to harm them, and even petrol bomb their homes.
When police arrived at Reid’s Sussex Terrace home on 27 December, he resisted arrest and assaulted two officers.
Guilty on Most Charges, Avoids Immediate Jail
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 24 February, Reid was convicted of assaulting emergency workers and pleaded guilty to malicious communications and harassment. He was cleared of causing actual bodily harm.
On 10 March, he received a suspended 24-week jail term for malicious communications and harassment, plus an additional 4 weeks for assaulting officers. He was also slapped with a three-year restraining order.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
“The two women showed great courage supporting this investigation. Reid’s actions subjected them to terrifying threats,” said PC Philip Peck. “The officers who tried to arrest him were assaulted while doing their duty.”
