Ten Fire Engines and Boats Battle Massive Flood at Lee Green Fire Station
A huge water main burst has flooded the Lee Green fire station in South East London, sparking a major emergency response this morning (Friday, January 6).
South London Road Shut After Water Main Burst
Eltham Road in Greenwich closed in both directions after the burst pipe unleashed floods up to six feet deep. Firefighters were stranded at the station, cut off by the deluge. Motorists and locals have been warned to steer clear of the area.
Fire Crews Deploy Boats and Rescue Gear
- Ten fire engines plus specialist units from Bexley and Lewisham rushed in with rescue boats and flood suits.
- Crews helped evacuate residents trapped in flooded homes on Meadow Court Road.
- Engineers brought in a high-volume pump to control the flooding and shut off the damaged valve.
The burst pipe has also seriously damaged the road infrastructure, causing long-term disruption. A planned critical incident response has been delayed due to the emergency.
Authorities Issue Warnings, Work Underway
The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade have been contacted but have yet to comment. Emergency teams continue battling the floodwaters and repairs are ongoing. Drivers are urged to avoid Eltham Road until further notice.
