A 13-year-old schoolboy shocked Telford after striking four victims in street attacks over the winter. Despite the violent spree, he will avoid jail—sparking outrage and controversy across the community.

Teen Attacker Escapes Jail

The youngster repeatedly assaulted his victims, who fought back as he carried out his attacks. The judge admitted the case was “very, very difficult” and confessed to being baffled by the boy’s behaviour. He explained the tricky balance between what a 13-year-old needs and society’s demand for justice.

Had the culprit been an adult, he’d be facing nine years inside. But a custodial sentence for a child that age would mean just 18 months behind bars, failing to tackle the root causes of his violence.

Rehabilitation Over Imprisonment

In a controversial move, the judge handed down a youth rehabilitation order alongside 30 months of supervision. The boy must also attend a specialist therapeutic programme. This targets his “distorted view of sexual intimacy,” thought to fuel the attacks.

The judge noted the teenager came from a relatively normal life and claimed he acted “out of anger and low mood” — insisting the assaults weren’t about sexual gratification.

Outrage Among Victims’ Families

The decision to spare the boy jail time has ignited fury, especially among the victims and their loved ones. Many fear justice is slipping through their fingers while public safety is put at risk.
