Kent Crime Squad Slams Down 46 Charges in Just One Month
Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Crime Squad has slammed nearly 50 charges in July alone. This tough team, made up of detectives and uniformed officers, specialises in cracking down on burglary and robbery.
Heavy Sentences and Swift Justice
The squad didn’t just nick suspects – their hard work led to a combined jail time of almost 15 years last month. Ten arrests were made, and many defendants were quickly remanded in custody ahead of court dates.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Talboys said: “Our officers are committed to achieving the best possible results for victims of crime. It’s great to see so many cases leading to charges and suspects being remanded in custody.”
“Since we launched in February 2019, we’ve authorised more than 2,100 charges.”
Notorious Burglaries and Fraud Cases Uncovered
- Two men allegedly burgled nine homes across Queenborough, Sittingbourne, Minster, Iwade, and Gillingham. They face Maidstone Crown Court in mid-August.
- A Dover man admitted burgling two homes and using a stolen bank card fraudulently. His sentence hearing is set for Canterbury Crown Court.
- Two men face burglary charges after stealing car parts and number plates from Detling Aerodrome Industrial Estate.
Serious Sentences for Assault, Theft, and More
- A Sheerness man who assaulted a police officer during arrest and escaped custody was handed three years behind bars.
- Two metal thieves caught stealing copper wiring in Canterbury were jailed for nearly three years combined.
- A thief who nicked an elderly man’s bank card in Folkestone and spent it on vodka and hair gel got a year in prison.
One Crime Squad detective, now with the Serious Organised Crime Unit, helped bring two men to justice for a string of offences including a ram raid in Northfleet, a shop robbery in Ebbsfleet, and burglaries across Gravesend and Dartford. The pair were locked up for a total of 22 years.
DCI Talboys warned: “There’s no let-up in our efforts. Kent will be a tough place for criminals to operate.”
“If we suspect you’re involved in crime, we’ll come after you and make sure you’re held to account.”
