Mystery Teen Found Dead Near London Railway Tracks
A teenage boy, aged between 15 and 18, was found lifeless between Mortlake and North Sheen stations on December 14, 2020. A member of the public made the grim discovery just after 10 a.m.
Severe Injuries, No ID, and Missing Shoes
The boy suffered major trauma to his head, neck, chest, and torso. Experts say injuries were caused by contact with a moving train and a fall from height – possibly from an aircraft. Despite extensive efforts, British Transport Police (BTP) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) could not identify him or contact family. He had no ID, tattoos, or scars. His shoes and socks were missing.
Clues Point to Attempted Stowaway on Flight from Nigeria
Forensic pathologist Dr Robert Charles Chapman confirmed no sign of assault. He concluded the youngster likely died before hitting the railway tracks. The official cause of death was hypothermia and hypoxia at altitude – common in people hiding in airplane wheel wells.
Investigators tracked a green polo shirt with “Sulid Supra Used High Quality Motorcycle Parts” to a motorbike company in Nigeria. The firm confirmed no missing staff. CCTV indicated a flight from Lagos landed at Heathrow about six hours before the body was found. The plane’s approach took it close to Richmond rail tracks.
Official Appeal to Identify Victim Hits Dead End
Lagos airport CCTV had been deleted, but aircraft inspection revealed boot prints in the wheel well. The NCA released a facial reconstruction via the Nigerian High Commission and Ministry of Affairs, but no identification has been made.
Acting Senior Coroner Lydia Brown said: “I’m very conscious that somewhere out there this young man has a family who are wondering about him. Unfortunately, no communication has been established for me to share what I know about this young man.”
She added: “He took quick steps to gain access to this aircraft and lost his life trying to reach the UK. Whatever he was attempting failed miserably and ended in his death instead of opportunity.”
