Fraud Squad Cracks Down at Dawn

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate’s Fraud Team swooped on a Stodmarsh, Canterbury address at 7am on Tuesday, 30 April 2019. Three men were arrested after a probe into a spate of rogue trader scams that preyed on vulnerable victims.

Cold Calls Turned Criminal Confidence Trick

Victims in their seventies reported being hounded months later by men posing as police officers. The imposters demanded court costs and VAT payments on illegal building work. The scam left victims short of tens of thousands of pounds.

Police Warn: Don’t Be Fooled

“Always ask for identification of any caller to your home,” Detective Sergeant Marc Cananur urged. “No genuine caller will mind you doing this. If you have doubts, close and lock your door and call the organisation they claim to be from.”

The trio aged 34, 40, and 48 remain in custody as enquiries continue.
