Weekend Crackdown on Anti-Social Drivers and Nuisance Bikers in Dover
Over the weekend of 6-7 March 2021, Kent Police teamed up with PCSOs, the Kent Special Constabulary, and Dover District Council (DDC) to clamp down on illegal speeding and off-road motorbiking in the Dover district.
Speed Traps and Vehicle Seizures
- On Saturday, Roads Policing Unit officers hit hot-spots in Dover, Deal, Walmer, and Capel-Le-Ferne with speed checks.
- Ten speeding drivers were reported, and four vehicles were seized for lacking insurance.
- Three men were arrested on drugs offences, while one driver got an official warning for anti-social driving.
Motorcycles Targeted for Nuisance Behaviour
- Sunday saw the Dover Community Policing Team seize two motorcycles near Terrace Road under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act after previous warnings.
- One rider was reported for no insurance; five others received official warnings at the same site.
- Section 59 lets officers seize vehicles used recklessly or off-road if offenders don’t heed warnings within 12 months.
- Six people were also fined for breaching Covid-19 restrictions over the weekend.
More Offences and Strong Warnings
- A man was reported for running a red light on 1 Road.
- Five motorcycles stop-checked on Scotland Common led to one rider reported for no rear light and having an illegal number plate.
“We take all reports of anti-social use of vehicles seriously. It’s your responsibility to know the law,” said Inspector Fred McCormack from Dover Community Safety Unit. “You can only ride an off-road motorbike legally on private land with permission. Riding illegally without protective gear risks serious injury.”
Dover District Council’s Transport and Community Safety chief Nigel Collor added: “Alongside Kent Police’s action, we’re working with partners to find long-term solutions to stop nuisance vehicles.”
