Massive Drug Bust Sees Trio Jailed for Years

Three men have been slammed with hefty prison sentences after cops uncovered one of the biggest drug hauls in Hampshire’s history.

Big Names, Big Sentences

  • Lee Matthews, 37, from Denmead, handed down 15 years and 3 months for conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs.
  • Jason Jay Stanley, 20, Waterlooville, locked up for 7 years and 6 months on similar charges.
  • Robert David Hey, 41, portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth, got 7 years and 6 months for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Record-Breaking Cocaine Haul

It all kicked off on 2 October 2019 when officers stopped Stanley’s car and found a staggering 4kg of cocaine. That bust led them to a lockup at Clamp Farm, Newtown, where they uncovered a hidden stash including 68kg of cocaine, 25kg of amphetamine, plus a handgun, silencer, and 50 bullets.

The drugs were cunningly hidden inside a vehicle using a purpose-built hide — making this the largest single cocaine seizure ever recorded by Hampshire Constabulary.

Police Crack Down on Organised Crime

“This investigation, led by Hampshire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit, exposed just one layer of a massive criminal network,” said Detective Constable Edward Wiggans.

“These criminals were promised a lavish lifestyle and financial security but now face lengthy jail sentences, tearing them away from their families. The big bosses may still be out there, but we’re coming for them.”

CPS Wessex Senior Crown Prosecutor Andrew Gubbels added: “Thanks to meticulous examination of mobile phone data, including encrypted messages and DNA evidence, the accused had no choice but to plead guilty. Hey played a key role arranging drug hides and couriering across the UK.”

“Disrupting this enormous drug supply protects our communities and sends a clear message: we’re serious about tackling drug crime.”
