Brutal Crossbow Attack Over Cannabis Raid Ends in Double Tragedy
Saghawat Ramzan, his son Omar, and Mohammed Sageer claim they acted in self-defence. But their violent response left 19-year-old Khuzaimah Douglas and Saghawat’s own brother, 36-year-old Waseem Ramzan, dead.
Cannabis Factory Next Door Sparks Deadly Raid
The Ramzans ran a lucrative cannabis factory on Pensnett Road, Brierley Hill — right next to their homes. They kept a close watch on rivals and threats in the area.
At 3.30am on 20 February last year, around 10 raiders stormed the property hoping to steal the crop. The Ramzans were prepared, armed to the teeth with weapons including a large panther crossbow, swords, knives, and knuckledusters.
Violent Skirmish Ends in Fatal Crossbow Shots
Saghawat and Omar rushed to defend the factory and called for Waseem’s help. Saghawat fired a crossbow shot that missed the fleeing intruders. One raider, Khuzaimah Douglas, was seized and wrestled to the ground by Waseem.
Mohammed Sageer then joined the fray. As Khuzaimah struggled, all three men attacked him. In the chaos, Saghawat reloaded and fired at point-blank range — but missed, hitting his brother Waseem instead.
CCTV footage shows Waseem pulling the bolt from his own abdomen. Despite this, Saghawat took another shot. This bolt hit Khuzaimah in the hip, embedding deep in his pelvic bone. The teenager collapsed across the road and died from massive blood loss, despite medical help.
Police Hunt Ends in Murder Convictions
Waseem was rushed to hospital by those left at the scene. Saghawat cleared weapons and secured the property before leaving. Police were alerted after the hospital flagged the rare and serious crossbow injury.
Saghawat gave a false version to officers, claiming he simply found his brother under attack. The trio tried to evade police by ditching their phones. Saghawat was caught in Stoke days later, Omar handed himself in, and Sageer surrendered after a Scotland and Bradford tip-off.
All three were charged with murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Munro called their actions “shocking, brutal and calculated.” He said: “To protect their cannabis grow, they were happy to use extreme violence in a brutal and sustained attack on Khuzaimah. They even killed Saghawat’s own brother in the process. There is no place for this kind of violence on our streets.”
