Teen Shot and Paralyzed in Birmingham Shooting: Three Found Guilty of Attempted Murder
After a tense six-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court, two 20-year-olds, Zidann Edwards and Diago Anderson, along with a 17-year-old boy, have been found guilty of attempted murder. The underage defendant also faced charges for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and illegal weapon possession.
The shocking shooting unfolded last November in the Hockley Circus underpass, Birmingham. A 13-year-old boy and his friends were heading out for food when the unprovoked attack happened. The innocent lad was shot in the back with a homemade slam gun, leaving him paralysed.
Brave Victim Calls for Help Amidst Chaos
Despite his grave injuries, the young victim managed to call 999, alerting ambulance crews. Before paramedics arrived, armed officers reached the scene and administered lifesaving first aid, possibly saving the teenager’s life.
CCTV and Forensics Nail the Gunmen
- CCTV showed a car abruptly stopping on a service road along the A41 before the trio fled the scene.
- Police tracked and recovered the vehicle, linking it to Edwards, Anderson, and the minor through forensic evidence.
- A handgun and the slam gun were recovered at an address connected to the 17-year-old.
- Investigators confirmed the homemade shotgun was used in the shooting.
Police Condemn Callous Attack and Urge Community Unity
“The unprovoked and callous actions of Zidann Edwards, Diago Anderson, and the 17-year-old boy changed the life of an innocent 13-year-old boy and his family forever,” said Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell of Force CID. “The consequences of their actions are heartbreaking, and my thoughts are with the boy, his family, and friends.”
“Our primary goal is to prevent these incidents. But sadly, gun violence continues to plague our streets. We need communities to unite and support us in tackling gun and gang crime.”
Sentencing is set for October 7. The court hopes the harsh verdict serves as a warning to those involved in firearms violence in Birmingham and beyond.
