Three Sentenced for Brutal Murder of Anthony Adekola

Three men have been handed lengthy prison terms after being found guilty of murdering Anthony Adekola in a chilling knife attack last year.

Sentences Handed Down at Old Bailey

  • Ta-jaun Subaran, 19, from Hendon, received life imprisonment with a minimum of 22 years.
  • A 17-year-old boy was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 18 years.
  • Another 17-year-old boy was given 17 years and six months.

Fateful Night on Martlesham Walk

On 5 September 2020, at around 9.14pm, Anthony Adekola was fatally stabbed as he walked home from work along Martlesham Walk. CCTV showed two minicabs pulling up nearby, with a group of men who stepped out and waited.

Anthony briefly spoke with them before trying to run away. Tragically, he tripped over a concrete bollard and was caught in an alley, where the killers repeatedly stabbed him with multiple knives.

The attackers fled the scene in their minicabs, leaving Anthony to die from catastrophic injuries. His body was found around 11pm by his brother and friends. Police confirmed he passed away shortly after the attack.

Forensic Evidence Nails the Killers

Investigators linked the suspects to the crime through fingerprints located inside one of the taxis and DNA found on a facemask at the scene. Phone records showed the defendants had called taxi firms shortly before the attack.

All three were arrested and charged with murder. One suspect was found carrying a lock knife during arrest.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: “This group drove to Colindale to commit a senseless act of violence that ended the life of a young man and devastated a family. They will now spend the best years of their lives behind bars.”

“Anthony was innocent – an unarmed, unsuspecting victim of a targeted, horrific attack. The frenzy and variety of weapons used clearly show the killers’ intent to murder.”

“While nothing can undo this tragedy, the streets are safer now with these three behind bars. My thoughts are with Anthony’s family, and I hope this conviction brings them some closure.”
