Thief nabbed after booze heist at Waitrose!

Quick response cuts crime spree short

At around 4.15pm on Monday 30 January 2023, an urgent broadcast went out over the Safer Towns Partnership radio network. The alert was triggered by the theft of several bottles of alcohol from a Waitrose store.

This high-tech comms hub connects shops and businesses across town, helping to crack down on crime and tackle anti-social behaviour. Thanks to patrols by local constables, a suspect was caught red-handed by 4.40pm.

Suspect linked to previous shoplifting

Luke Willis, 28, from Shoreham Road, Orpington, was arrested on suspicion of theft. He now faces two charges, including an earlier alleged theft at a Sevenoaks Marks and Spencer on 21 December 2022.

He’s bailed ahead of court date

Willis has been bailed until his hearing at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on 2 March.
