A top Met cop, once the face of the force’s recruitment drive, now faces serious stalking and harassment charges. PC Samson Akinnawo, 35, allegedly stalked a woman and bombarded her with unwanted contact over several months.
High-Profile Officer in Hot Water
Akinnawo, part of the Met’s Specialist Operations unit, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court accused of harassing Melieka Daley between June and August last year. The arrest came in July 2025, confirmed Scotland Yard.
Disturbing Allegations Surface
- Flooding Ms Daley with phone calls and messages
- Showing up at her home uninvited
- Claiming to track her from work
- Contacting a friend of Ms Daley post-arrest
The prosecution says his actions caused Ms Daley severe emotional distress and disrupted her life.
From Recruitment Star to Court Drama
Akinnawo was once a shining star of the Met’s “Change Needs You” campaign, launched in July 2024. He openly shared his passion for policing and encouraged others to join.
Before the police, he worked as a prison officer and bus driver. Now suspended, he lives on Walton Road, Newham, while facing the charges.
Legal Battle Ahead
In court, Akinnawo pleaded guilty to a different charge – refusing to hand over his phone passcode last November. District Judge Lisa Towell granted him conditional bail.
He is due back at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 10 April for formal stalking and harassment charges. The verdict will decide his fate.
